Short Cake


1 c. all-purpose flour
1 T. sugar
1 ½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
2 T. plus 2 tsp. shortening
½ c. milk

1. Heat oven to 425 degrees.
2. Measure out all ingredients carefully.
3. Place all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
4. Cut in the shortening to the flour mixture with a pastry blender till shortening is the size of a small pea.
5. Stir in milk until just blended.
6. Drop from spoon to form 4 cakes on lightly greased baking sheet.
7. Bake 10-15 min. or until golden.
